The Business of Art & Photography

Want to be a Professional Photographer?

Being a professional photographer involves a lot more than being able to take beautiful photos,  if you want to make a business of photography, first and foremost, you need to know how to market and sell your work, to know your target audience and how to target your marketing efforts to reach potential customers.

If you do not have an established contact list, and people who know your work, you will need to find a way to get your work out to your target audience to be seen.  Remember that you are targeting a specific clientele base,  if you spread your base too wide, you will miss the potential customers you are trying to reach.

Make use of advertising that is offered in blogs on marketing….you will need  to spend some money but research where best to dump your advertising budget…check out on-line directories carefully.  Safe bets are usually local Bridal and Wedding fairs, Yellow Pages phone directories, (both online and local phone book adds).  For online phone book adds it will cost a little extra, but a link to web site is a good idea….(note, there are some sites that allow for a free listing, you have to put up with some adverts trying to get you to upgrade to a paid advert, but its worth the hassle for a free add…..also compare sites for brides, DJ’s, etc….

To be up front, Photography and the Arts is a hard business at best,  you have got to be dedicated and have the drive to succeed…I have been doing Photography and Fine Art for over 15 years an have been published in several magazines including Popular Photography, Photographer’s Forum, and Spin.

If Art is in your blood there is no turning back or to the side….persistance is the key…..take a look at some of my work for inspiration, which by the way are also for sale.
